My favourite is the 'traditional chocolate mousse' as it is quite light with a creamy, milk chocolate flavour. The 2 ingredient mousse is much heavier and richer with a chocolate & hazelnut flavour. The chunky peppermint mousse is different again and if you love peppermint, then you'll love this one.
Traditional chocolate mousse
It only has 4 ingredients but takes a little longer than the method above because you have to whip the cream, melt the chocolate & whisk the egg whites. Taking that into account, it is still very simple and only takes about 15 - 20 mins.
- 300ml thickened cream
- 200g milk chocolate
- 4 eggs separated (room temperature)
- extra whipped cream to serve
Step 1 - In a large bowl, whip cream until soft peaks form. Set aside.
Step 2 - In a separate bowl, break up chocolate. Microwave for 30 secs then stir. Repeat process until chocolate is melted.
Step 3 - Add egg yolks into the melted chocolate & whisk until smooth.
Step 4 - In a small clean bowl, beat egg whites until soft peaks form. Do not over beat. Set aside.
Step 5 - Gently fold the chocolate mixture into the cream. Then fold through egg whites. Do not over mix.
Step 6 - Spoon mousse into 6 cups & refrigerate until set (approx 8 hrs).
2 ingredient choc hazelnut mousse
- 2 cups thickened cream (500ml)
- 1 cup chocolate hazelnut spread
Step 2 - Add hazelnut spread & fold through until combined.
Step 3 - Spoon into small glasses or one large bowl. Refrigerate for 6 hrs or overnight to set.
Tips - it is quite a rich dessert and is best separated into individual portions that are small in size. Alternatively, you can serve the mousse in one large bowl so diners can dish up their own portions.
Chunky peppermint mousse
Utilise those ALDI ingredients that you probably have never looked at. The mint chocolate and the mint creme biscuits are a match made in heaven that results in this delicious peppermint dessert.

- 125g dark chocolate, mint flavoured
- 4 eggs separated, room temperature
- 200g chocolate mint creme biscuits
Step 1 - In a large bowl, whip cream until soft peaks form. Set aside.
Step 2 - In a separate bowl, break up chocolate. Microwave for 30 secs then stir. Repeat process until chocolate is melted.
Step 3 - Add egg yolks into the chocolate & whisk until smooth.
Step 4 - In a small clean bowl, beat egg whites until soft peaks form. Do not over beat. Set aside.
Step 5 - Roughly chop the biscuits into small pieces, leaving aside 3 biscuits for serving.
